Ko Samui Yoga Retreat - expensive monkeys!




I don't know it just struck me as funny!

It's really not that funny though  - up at 6:30 and ready to go for a walk at 7. Yesterday, Monday we walked straight up and it was about 28 degrees. We were rewarded with some wonderful views.

Apparently there was a shooting and then no one ever came back!

As if a huge walk isn't enough after that you can do yoga so I did two classes. The first class was torture - Hatha -Yin mix, brutal!!! I thought I was going to throw in the towel. However, the next session was restorative yoga and it was excellent ....almost fell asleep! Spent some time at the pool then at 4 went to a cardio class. It was hard in this heat.
I discovered a little restaurant next door that serves "normal" thai food.
The food here at the retreat/resort is mostly vegan and super healthy. 


Dec 24th

Today we walked 13 km. My goal was to get to McDonald's and get a coffee. The coffee here and next door is small and not that great. However, after walking from 7 - 9:50 three of us arrived at McDonalds and it was closed  - doesn't open until ten!!! Decided that waiting was not worth it - cause the reality is that if I had stopped for 10 minutes it would have been too hard to get going again. So, I stopped at my little place next door - had coffee, eggs and toast. Came back here and did a yoga class. At the moment I should be in cardio class but I skipped it!!

Walked past this wondering what the heck  - monkey's in a truck. Turns out they are special - very expensive and trained to get young fresh coconuts out of the tree. Apparently one monkey costs the equivalent to half a years salary.  I have a video and will post it but not sure if it will work. Watch to the end where you'll see the coconuts drop.



The resort is very nice, everything is clean, the staff are wonderful and the instructors are trained and knowledgeable.  There are about 14 people doing the two week course - 2 Canadians, 1 American, 5 Aussies, the rest Europeans - Norway, France, Ireland and Germany,

OK, just had vegan ice cream and it was pretty good!!

We headed out to the Albert Cuyp Market first thing - we walked by a restaurant that said bacon and eggs and we were in it like a flash! The guy was super nice and we both ordered breakfast. It was interesting because the plate had toast on it the bottom then we think they cooked the bacon and then cooked eggs right on top of the bacon. Sounds odd but it was good - after I pulled the bacon apart from the egg and separated it all!  Tiki says it looked like a bacon and egg pizza! The owner talked us into splitting a piece of apple cake that he had just brought out of the kitchen - it was also very good!!! Freshly baked apple cake! A whole stand of licorice! Paris - Day 2 somehow got lost in the fray! So, it's out of order!

Woops : I forgot to post these yesterday from a local chocolate store. Not sure the history of these but I first had them in Brittany - they are so good! Pignouf Geant  only 225.00 Euros Our coronavirus plan is formulating - we decided to go to the museums first thing to avoid the crowds. First stop today was Sainte Chappelle: Yellow Alert for Flood warnings on the Seine Gangways to nowhere!

What a long haul!

Oy Vey, Arrived in Bangkok at zero dark thirty this morning just in time to see a beautiful sunrise. My picture does not do it justice. The first leg from Toronto to Dubai was great. I cannot say enough about the service provided by Air Canada. Everyone was very nice and the food was excellent. Even the food in the Maple Leaf Lounge was tasty and I am not saying that because of the three glasses of wine I had. Excellent wine selection ! Maple Leaf Lounge.  My space for the 13 + hours! Arrived In Dubai somewhat refreshed as I did manage to sleep a little. On the way to the lounge I spotted the Brioche Doree  - United Arab Emerites has every major  chain store and restaurant in the world, in my opinion these are the McDonalds of patisseries from France. I looked at a few things along the way in the multitude of duty free stores but the prices did not seem that great. No room for an almond croissant! M & M's, gummies ...
