New Years 2020



The first night we arrived we ended up in the Lady-boy bar across from the now infamous "Central Perk" aka I-Sky. Last night as we walked down the street the bartender was out front -



I've mentioned the glasses of wine before - here's a better example of what a "Glass of Wine " is:

These trucks circle the streets with loudspeakers announcing the fights that are taking place. They blast their announcements and are very annoying! The whole town is noisy, if its not these trucks its a motorcycle revving it's engine to make it 100 meters.

There didn't appear to be a lot going on so we stopped for a quick bite and then headed back to the Aloha Resort - our plan had been to sit on the beach and watch the fireworks but we were a little early and it would have been uncomfortable. So, we went to Kylie and Wendy's room and sat on their balcony. It was the perfect location and probably the safest. Not very many safety precautions were in place - actually none!

We had a lovely time and managed to finish the bottle off.

New Years day they did not have a 7 am hike - but did have the yoga and strength training. Tomorrow is Thai boxing again .........I like it but the gloves are stinky.

We headed out to the Albert Cuyp Market first thing - we walked by a restaurant that said bacon and eggs and we were in it like a flash! The guy was super nice and we both ordered breakfast. It was interesting because the plate had toast on it the bottom then we think they cooked the bacon and then cooked eggs right on top of the bacon. Sounds odd but it was good - after I pulled the bacon apart from the egg and separated it all!  Tiki says it looked like a bacon and egg pizza! The owner talked us into splitting a piece of apple cake that he had just brought out of the kitchen - it was also very good!!! Freshly baked apple cake! A whole stand of licorice! Pigeon watching me take every bite! Only the Dutch could turn a bike into a table!  Delicious! How small can the cars get! Like the size of a recycling bin! Anne Franks door! Flowers are in bloom! Paris - Day 2 somehow got lost in the fray! So, it's out of order!

Woops : I forgot to post these yesterday from a local chocolate store. Not sure the history of these but I first had them in Brittany - they are so good! Pignouf Geant  only 225.00 Euros Our coronavirus plan is formulating - we decided to go to the museums first thing to avoid the crowds. First stop today was Sainte Chappelle: Yellow Alert for Flood warnings on the Seine Gangways to nowhere!

Truly a unique city ...just a mass of humanity!

I have a love -hate relationship with Bangkok, perhaps that is a little too harsh as the love - hate relationship is basically with the Tuk Tuk drivers. They prey on people and literally take you for a ride. They are the kamikaze,  blood sucking whores of the Bangkok roads. Having said that it is a welcome breeze as you fly through the streets, sidestepping trucks, cars, motorcycles, bikes,dogs and people.  More later,I'm getting over it. My day started out trying to get to Chinatown. It is not accessible by the sky train and that leaves you prey to the Taxi's. It should cost about 4 dollars to get there.  The first taxi driver refused to put the meter on and said 300 baht  - 12 dollars. I told him my roots were not blonde!  Second one put the meter on and it cost 120 baht ....more like it.
